The Value of a Book,
The Power of an App
Guidebooks have been around for a long time, and they have traditionally been the most comprehensive and trusted source of backcountry ski data available. We’ve worked to reimagine these paper books into a dynamic experience that unlocks better, safer, and deeper days in the backcountry. onX presents locally sourced and expertly curated ski guidebook data, alongside tools like our coveted Slope Angle, Slope Aspect, Avalanche Forecasts, SNOTEL data, and more. This allows you to find a region, a zone, a line and build your plan for next month, tomorrow, or the blink of an eye.
Twelve Ski Guidebooks In One Mobile App
Beacon Guidebooks has been on the leading edge of curating the must-ski lines in the states they cover including Washington and Colorado. This partnership represents our commitment to providing the best and most comprehensive ski route data available to our community.

How to Explore onX Backcountry Guidebooks
Whether you are e-scouting on your desktop or mobile device, we make it easy and intuitive to find your first line or your next line.
Tap the Discover Button While in Snow Mode
The App shows you one of the eleven Regions that are closest to your current location. If you’re looking to travel, simply pan the map to Washington or Colorado and the Discover card will update with Regions closest to the map center.
Pick a Region, Select a Zone
Tap on the Region in the Discover card (or on the map by looking for the purple shapes). From here, you can read all about the Region, get up to date avalanche forecasts, check nearby SNOTEL stations, and then dig one level deeper into zones.
Know Your Zone
Once you’ve selected one of the 227 Zones, you’ll be presented with more data about that specific area, where to park, photos, ATES ratings, and more.
Pick Your Line
Many Zones have multiple ascending and descending lines you can pick from. Tap on each to further explore the 1,391 Lines to find one that’s right for you.
Make Your Plan
Once you have an idea of where you want to ski, you can use the terrain analysis tools like Slope Angle, Slope Aspect, 3D Maps, and map markup tools to build your best pow day.
