onX Raises Funds for Local Avalanche Forecast Centers in November

Donating a portion of each app’s membership to support avalanche safety and education across the US

onX, a pioneer in outdoor digital navigation, today launched its “Support Your Forecast” program to raise funds for local avalanche forecast centers–the organizations that empower snow enthusiasts to make safer backcountry adventures each season. During the month of November, onX will donate $10 of each onX Backcountry and onX Offroad membership to subscribers’ local avalanche centers, raising awareness around backcountry safety and education as the winter season begins.

To participate, onX Backcountry and onX Offroad memberships must be purchased in November through the program’s website, so that subscribers can select which of the country’s 25 avalanche centers their membership will support.

onX Backcountry and onX Offroad are navigation apps that help outdoor enthusiasts have great adventures and get home safely. They feature local avalanche forecasts, slope angle information, and route suggestions that support informed decision making in the backcountry. onX Backcountry is tailored to human-powered adventurers and onX Offroad is designed for power-sports lovers.

“A winter day spent in the mountains nourishes the soul. As backcountry travelers, we all have a responsibility to make informed decisions when we’re in these inspiring landscapes and that includes the daily habit of checking the avalanche forecast,” said onX Backcountry General Manager, Will Sladek. “But when we open up onX to check these reports, we don’t always recognize the effort and dedication of the forecasters who create them. They are the unsung heroes of our winter adventures, providing us with critical information from the field each morning so we can head into the mountains safely. Our goal is to raise awareness and support these groups and the resources they provide.”

“Last winter, we saw unprecedented backcountry use,” said National Avalanche Center Specialist, Simon Trautman. “Whether new to the backcountry or seasoned enthusiasts, many of these people rely on avalanche centers for daily information and ongoing learning opportunities. Now, more than ever, we are challenged to meet this growing community’s needs.”

“To respond to the backcountry community’s growth, avalanche centers are working to make avalanche awareness an essential part of the winter backcountry community’s daily plan,” said Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center Executive Director, Aaron Carlson. “Through the support of onX Backcountry users, we can provide additional and better resources to assist with decision making in the backcountry and increase our impact on avalanche safety.”

An onX Backcountry membership is $29.99 annually. onX Offroad Premium and onX Offroad Elite annual subscriptions are $29.99 and $99.99 respectively. Follow along with #SupportYourForecast and find more information online at https://www.onxmaps.com/backcountry/avalanche-month
