Trail Overview
While the main entrance is the most common way to get to Mann Lake, this route offers a more interesting drive. There are some deeper transitions as it skirts along the bottom of the hills, some rocky sections, and more opportunities to spot wildlife like Chukkar and Antelope, to name a few. If one prefers a less established spot to camp, a few flat sections are scattered about to make camp for the evening. Just be very cautious of fire out here as long-dried grasses are the norm, and there is evidence of old, wholly burned juniper trees all over the hillsides leading up into the Steens Mountains. Check local fire restrictions or camp in the established campground at Mann lake with its metal fire rings and cleared spaces. 2 bars of Verizon LTE service fade in and out.
