Best Utah Off-Road Trails
Toquerville Falls, near St. George
Difficulty: Easy / Duration: 7 miles
Toquerville Falls is a fairly easy trail, with a few rutted spots, that is marked by an amazing set of waterfalls on La Verkin Creek. Stop at the falls and jump in the creek. The trail crosses over the creek, so depending on the time of year, the creek may be impassable due to high water. Most stock medium-high clearance SUVs should have no problem on this beautiful trail.
Sand Mountain Open OHV Area
Difficulty: Varying / Duration: Varying
Get ready for classic sand dune riding. This popular open OHV area covers nearly 5,000 acres for off-road enthusiasts to explore. If you dare, rip on up to Sand Mountain, the largest single dune in the Great Basin. Some dispersed camping is available, but there’s no water so plan ahead. Want to explore further? Take a step back in time on the adjacent Warner Valley Dinosaur Tracks road that will take you to preserved dinosaur footprints.
Maze Overlook, Canyonlands National Park
Difficulty: Moderate / Distance: 13 miles
Explore the Maze area on this fun ride with unique terrain and beautiful views. To get to this trail you will have to drive down the Flint Trail Switchbacks. Once at the Maze Overlook, look southeast to the Chocolate Drop spires. Hike down into the Maze and connect to miles of hiking trails. The toughest spot on this trail is a moderate ledge at 1.4 miles. High clearance and low-range gearing is a must.
Hotel Rock
Difficulty: Moderate / Duration: 4 miles
90 miles south of Moab, this awesome route passes through desert terrain with beautiful mountain views. Once you hit the trail, expect dirt and rock, sandy washes, and steep rock climbs. The Hotel Rock feature, which is an old Anasazi lookout, can be found on Little Baullie Mesa. Be respectful of archeological sites and tread lightly.
Paiute ATV Trail
Difficulty: Easy / Duration: 18 miles
The Paiute ATV Trail is a massive trail system with over 2,000 miles to explore for vehicles 50” and narrower. The main trails are in the Tushar and Pahvant Mountains. There are almost countless trails so plan for a big, exciting day, but make sure to Track your trip in the App so you can get back safely. Make sure to bring a camera for the great views.
