Trail Overview

The Red Trail is the second hardest trail in this trail system next to 5 Miles of Hell. It is consistently full of rock slab, big ledges, drop-offs, and loose climbs that are all advanced obstacles. It's a really fun and challenging trail that will make you practice your technique for getting up (or down) several-foot-high rock stair steps. The trail goes through a Moab-like landscape, except that the trail is narrower and goes through rock slab canyons where there aren't multiple lines to choose from. A couple of the obstacles have an alternate easy way around them, but most do not. There is an easier section of dirt single track with loose rock in the middle of the trail, followed by another section of slab rock ledges and obstacles before dropping down into a sandy wash. The Red Trail is very similar to the 5 Miles of Hell trail, but not quite as hard. The sandy wash is very unique with dark red slab rock sections peeking out of the sand. After the wash the trail continues onto another section of slab rock and ledges and loose rock climbs, also of advanced difficulty. It's a short trail, so although challenging, can probably be completed in an hour for skilled riders. The trail connects with the Orange and Blue Trails at the south end. The trail is marked with red paint on the rock slab the entire way and is very easy to follow. You are surrounded by beautiful desert views the entire time of the Temple Mountain and Goblin Valley area, with layered red mesas and beautiful red sandstone canyons.
