Long Mountain 76

Trail Overview

Long mountain road describes this route to a T. With an elevation of around 1400 feet, it's a perfect route to see some pretty views of the Ouachita NF. The route is an easy gravel road with some steep hill climbs and descents. There are several areas to stop and look at the views. There are a few spur trails along this route to go off-roading and test out the four-wheel drive. I found several different camping locations one of which had an amazing view and is located at the west end of the trail, however, there are no close water sources. No restrooms are along this route, however, cell service was attainable along parts of this route. Be aware that the Ouachita National Forest is home to many wildlife species. I have personally seen Turkey, skunk, and White Tailed deer. There are also black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, scorpions, cotton mouth, and rattle snakes. The cotton mouth can be found near streams and creeks so be careful if you have a furry friend along with you as they may get bit (my dog did). There are 60 different species of plant life in this forest. Spring and fall is an amazing times of year as the colors of blooms range from red, orange, yellow, green, and purple.

Easy gravel road with some steep hill climbs that do require either 4 low or a running start to get up (with a heavily weighted vehicle). Due to rain, there might be washed-out areas with bigger rocks and uneven terrain.
