Trail Overview
Bear Spring is overall a very well-maintained road with the majority being wide enough for two vehicles. There are no major obstacles along the road, however, drivers should be aware of the low-lying washes that have the potential to be shallow water crossings after rain or snowmelt. These washes are also softer sand, but the entire length of the road will be easily completed by most high-clearance 2WD vehicles when dry. There are some sections where the road is a washboard surface, but that is the extent of its difficulty. The road connects from CR 169 in the west and runs to Riley S./FSR 354 in the east, where drivers can turn south and head back towards Magdalena, or head north towards the ghost town of Riley. Cell service is weak in the lower elevation areas and moderate in the higher areas where the views are vast. Traffic is high on this road during hunting seasons.
