Trail Overview
The Longleaf Trail, located in the heart of the Ocala National Forest, offers 25 miles of exhilarating off-road experience for all riders. Beginning at the Rodman OHV Trailhead and extending southward, this trail promises adventure amidst nature's beauty. Access to the trail is also available at the Lake Delancy West campground. The Rodman trailhead offers a large unpaved parking area, with trail maps available next to the information station and vault toilets. The Ocala Trail system requires a pass available from Recreation.gov ($10 for a 3-day pass). Paying at the trail in cash is no longer available and cell service is spotty at best throughout the trail. Make sure you save all OnX maps for offline use. The east section of the trail presents riders with the challenge of navigating through soft sand and high-bank blind corners. Although wide enough for most vehicles, expect some pinstriping and roof taps in certain sections near the trailhead entrance. While marked with white arrows on a yellow background, it's essential to remain vigilant for multiple trail spurs and signs indicating suitable routes for equipment types, including several that also use the white arrow on a yellow background. Use your Onx map to ensure your trail number matches what is posted. Despite the loose sand and occasional whoops, this section offers opportunities for scenic stops, including the picturesque Lake Delancy West campground. The trail passes directly through the campground so please be respectful. In contrast, the west section of the trail, favored by locals, boasts wider paths and longer straightaways. As riders venture further on, they encounter climbs, whoops, and occasional large mudholes, adding excitement to the journey. This section also connects to the Hog Valley Trail system indicated by a white arrow on a red background. However, attention is required as the trail narrows near the Rodman Trailhead, marked again by multiple blind corners and low trees. Overall, the Longleaf Trail promises an unforgettable off-road experience, blending natural beauty with thrilling challenges. Whether exploring the east or west sections, riders are sure to find themselves immersed in the wonders of the Ocala National Forest.
