Seven Deer Trail

Trail Overview

Beginning at the Lake Topaz picnic area the graded dirt road becomes narrower and is single-vehicle wide. Ascending to 5,971 feet this is mostly a packed gravel trail. There are some steep and very rocky sections of 12" rocks and ledges that traverse the trail. These sections are about 20 feet long. In winter, snow can be expected. As a caution, it is possible to descend into a canyon and not be able to backtrack to escape due to snow and mud. Wild Oat Mountain is covered in sagebrush that smells great. There are no trees and only a few rock outcroppings along the trail to winch from, so bring a second vehicle in winter and spring.

Difficulty

Most of the dirt trail consists of packed dirt and gravel. There are a few places (3) that are technical with 12-inch loose rocks and 12-inch ledges. These technical sections are only about 20 feet long. A 4x4 with a 2.5" lift and 33" AT tires can overcome these obstacles.
