Trail Overview

The Miners Creek Trail starts at the end of the Miners Creek Road out of Creede, Colorado, which has a trailhead and some easily dispersed camp spots. It follows the Miners Creek north for a long way, with some extensive side-hilling, and several fairly big creek crossings. There are new wooden bridges that have been installed in recent years across some of the biggest crossings, but a few creek crossings are really rocky and keep you on your toes. The trail has a mixture of embedded large rock and loose rock with a few tight switchbacks. The trail continues to steadily climb all the way for 8.6 miles, gaining 2,300 feet, and ultimately gets narrower and windier next to the river. There is a series of very tricky climbs due to rocks, overgrown grass, and large ruts that have created big holes in the trail. The north end of the trail climbs up through a canyon with some cool white exposed dirt on the side of the canyon wall. The north end meets up with the La Garita Stock Driveway Trail.
