Trail Overview

Spikes is a short trail in Peach Valley that goes between the top and bottom of a mesa. It's a consistent grade the entire way, dropping 900 feet elevation from the top of the mesa to the bottom (or a constant climb if going the opposite direction). The top half is relatively easy, with some loose rock in the trail and wide sweeping turns through the pinyon pine. In the middle there are several rock ledge obstacles that are more difficult. They are like stair steps up or down, and like a ramp, but still technical with fall risk if you don't pick the best line. These obstacles are probably easier going down instead of up. After the ledges, it gets easy again until it connects with the sandy wash at the end of the trail. The trail goes through some unique landscapes with a mix of red dirt and sections with charcoal-like black dirt. It's a short trail, but is a good way to get off the top of the mesa and can connect to the Sidewinder and Sunset Rocks trails.
