Pine Spring

Trail Overview

Pine Spring is an intermediate single track in the Sante Fe National Forest north of the town of Los Alamos. Both entrances to the trail are pretty faint and hidden, so a GPS track is super helpful to get onto this trail. The north end is a faint trail off Road 445 near the west end of Corral Canyon. There are several braided cow trails that lead into the wash, but the trail actually starts climbing the hill south of the wash. The first climb is a really loose rocky climb up a mountainside. It's full of big loose rocks and has a big rocky switchback right away. The climb is full of softball-sized volcanic rocks and big boulders on a shelf trail to get up to the top of the mesa. This climb could definitely be hard for the average rider, especially if they don't have a good tire with lots of traction. It mellows out on top of the mesa as it is flat here, but still with some rocky sections. The trail does a lot of tight zig-zags on top of the mesa through a grassy meadow. The intersection down to the 446C road can be easy to miss when this trail connects to the Alamitos Loop.

Difficulty

This is an intermediate single track. The east end has a rocky hill climb that is a 5 difficulty. The west end is easier, of a 3 difficulty.
