Trail Overview
Danny Hole Trail is a network of Tiger Bay State Forest that covers a diverse landscape of longleaf pines and hardwoods, white sand, and low cypress swamps at the infamous Danny Hole. Entering from the north on Rima Ridge Road, it is a well maintained two-vehicle wide sand and gravel road that is graded regularly. Some sections of it are wash boarded pretty good, and airing down is advised. Once turning west on Danny Hole, the road becomes a single-lane two-track trail of sand and gravel. Towards the beginning, it is maintained well and becomes more rutted out with deeper holes the further down the track you make it. Once reaching the low point of Danny Hole, the forest changes to cypress with standing wetlands. This area could be difficult to cross after heavy rains and has some mud along the trail. Once making it down to Gopher Ridge, it's recommended to turn around at the open field to the right. The trail is gated off at private property and is difficult, steep, and tight to turn around by the gate. This is a fun getaway trail not far from Daytona Beach and also offers camping opportunities that require reservation through the State Forest system.
