West Mountain Valley Wash trail is one of four connecting trails that creates a loop known locally as Elephants, Virgins, and Things. The connecting trails are Twister Wash, Starvation Point, and Black Rock Trail. This trail combination is generally run in a counter clockwise manner but can be run in either direction. West Mountain Valley Wash trail consists of a dirt and sand track with a steep up or downhill climb depending upon the direction of travel. The trail offers impressive views of the Virgin River Gorge and an opportunity to make a short hike down to the river. The namesake for these trails is combined by the view of Elephant Rock (on Starvation Point trail), the views and ability to walk to the Virgin River on the West Mountain Valley Wash trail, and the Things being the sinkholes found on the Twister Wash trail.
