Trail Overview

The School House Rock ATV trail is part of the Hardscrabble OHV system, and is accessed off of the Hockett Gulch trail. The east end of the trail is a dead end, making this an out and back. From Hockett Gulch, it follows an old power line road open to ATVs and dirt bikes. It is mostly easy, with whoops, tight curves and sharp turns. Some spots may be a bit narrow for an ATV, as it looks mostly ridden by dirt bikes. The beginning has several crossings with the unmotorized Norton's trail, but it is well signed for which way to stay for motorized use. It comes to a saddle with an intersection for another unmotorized trail, and the next motorized segment that dead ends on the top of the mountain overlooking the town of Eagle. The last segment to go to the dead end is more narrow and would be difficult for a 50" vehicle. It goes up to the summit of the mountain you are on, under the pinyon pine trees with low branches and on a narrow ridge line. It looks like it would keep going to town, but there is no exit from the trail system for ATVs from this point. This is one of only a couple ATV trails in this trail system, but there are several more unmarked roads in this trail system for 50" vehicles to explore.
