Trail Overview
If you want to experience a little Yellowstone but are not planning on going to the park, this trail has a few hidden gems. It is a day-use area and runs right along the Yellowstone park boundary. There are a couple of day-use pull-offs at scenic spots, and you do have to drive down them to enjoy the scenery, though. Most of the main trail is trees and fields. But the scenic pull-offs run along Cougar Creek, and one looks in at the park and the mountains. No significant wildlife was spotted when the trail was run, but keep your eyes out for large animals. The trail is primarily wide dirt and gravel. It narrows in a few spots through the trees to one large vehicle width. In the winter, some of this trail has snowmobile access. There are two to three bars of LTE Cellular service in this area.
