North Weston Peak 7444

Trail Overview

North Weston Peak is a short but great single track in the Caribou National Forest near Preston, Idaho. The east end starts at the Clifton Basin Trailhead, and it runs directly west to connect to the Ruben Hollow single track. It gains 1,100 feet over 1.5 miles and takes you up to a saddle with amazing views overlooking the surrounding mountain valleys and lakes below you. The start is in a wide open meadow and has a small creek crossing that is smooth, shallow, and easy. The first third of the trail is flowier with smooth dirt and less rock. There is one log obstacle that is easy. The rest of the trail runs simultaneously with a trickling creek that is overflowing onto the trail, making it rutted out and wet and muddy in spring and summer. Part of the trail is in low shrubs that whip the hands that you have to watch out for. It enters more pine trees and continues to go straight up the face of the mountain. It is a steady incline with not many switchbacks, but not too steep. It gets rockier near the top as you connect to Ruben Hollow's single track, which is a much rockier trail. This is a fun out-and-back bonus trail when already riding the Ruben Hollow single track or a good way to connect to Ruben Hollow if coming from the east part of this trail system.
