Trail Overview

This trail starts off Blue Ridge Parkway near Horse Trail Gap and Hewat Overlook in the Pisgah National Forest. The Gap and nearby overlooks offer breathtaking views at sunrise and sunset. It is a fairly easy trail that offers a chance to get off the tarmac and explore the wilderness nearby. The trail runs beside a small fishing stream in a hunting area. Riders can expect to hear gunshots. Camping is allowed in federal lands. Ashville town is nearby and offers wonderful fall colors.

We went in from the BRP side and followed the trail to HWY 80, a very easy trail with a few camping spots scattered throughout, a high clearance 2WD should be fine, I would suggest to people looking for a bit more to start on the HWY 80 side and go up the trail across the BRP and into Curtis Creek forest service road, it will end up on the bypass in McDowell county, adds about a hour of trail time, and is not at all difficult either.

Trail was mud-less even after 3 days of rain. A handful of rocks a few inches tall, but simple drive.
