Trail Overview
The Chilcotin Mountain Trail takes you deep into a mountain valley, where you'll be treated to stunning vistas of Purgatory Glacier and Odegard Falls. The trail meanders through a dense forest, with a river rushing nearby, just 50 meters away. Along the route, you'll cross several bridges, each offering views of beautiful waterfalls. As you climb higher, you are surrounded by towering trees and thick underbrush, with occasional glimpses of the mountains appearing through the foliage. The trail conditions vary, with stretches of loose gravel, rocky terrain, and occasional ruts and potholes. There are a few creek crossings along the way, though none present a significant challenge. Approximately two-thirds of the way up, you'll encounter Odegard Falls, a magnificent waterfall cascading down a steep rock face across the valley. As you approach the summit of Odegard Pass (Nusatsum Summit), the forest begins to thin out, gradually revealing sweeping views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. Purgatory Lookout offers a panoramic vista that makes the entire journey worthwhile. The trail ends abruptly in a breathtaking view that will have you in awe.
