Trail Overview
This trail is a breeze for hikers and up to ATVs. For full-size rigs, this is the Rubicon trail in New Brunswick. The trail begins near Highway 7, just south of Welsford. You can enter on the hydro line or through the main gate. It's a well-kept gravel road for the first few kilometers past a couple of cabins. The challenge begins after you cross the channel that connects Robin Hood Lake and Little John Lake, which is about 4 kilometers in. There is a large rock shelf to climb, about 4 feet high at a 70-degree incline. Once you pass this, the trail will narrow, with many more rocks to clamber over. As the trail narrows further, it eventually ascends to Mahawne Mountain, about halfway to Turtle Mountain. At this point, the trail turns into many sharp turns between trees, barely fitting a full-sized rig between them. Be prepared for large rocks hairpin turns with abrupt descents and mixed ascents. Once you survive the gauntlet, the last 100 meters before the ascent are daunting. You will approach the incline on solid rock off-camber with the slop uphill to your right, then turn uphill while leaning down the slope. The view is worth every challenge to get there, as very few have taken their ccomplete-sizedrigs up to the summit, unscathed.
