Trail Overview

Block and Tackle is a fun intermediate single track in the Brush Creek riding area of Crested Butte, Colorado. The west half of the trail is slightly harder with more rocks. The east half is flowier through meadows and trees with sweeping curves and smoother dirt. The west half is made up of switchbacks, lots of slick roots, and rock slab sections with embedded boulders. It is a unique trail to have the red rock slab in the alpine, and also red dirt. There are lots of sideways slippery roots you have to make sure to hit straight on to prevent sliding, but the switchbacks are pretty wide and easy. It goes through a gorgeous aspen tree forest, especially in fall. It has a couple of creek crossings, including a long one at the east entrance off of Cement Creek Road. The trail is well-signed and maintained with cinder blocks to prevent erosion.
