Trail Overview

Hawk run is a meandering forest road that crosses through some private property as it climbs Spring Mountain along the border of Virginia and West Virginia. The road is mostly gravel with some dirt and clay in good condition with a few potholes and washouts. It crests at an elevation of over 2,000ft within George Washington National Forest and passes a section of the Tuscarora Eagle Rock Trail. There are many revealing views of distant mountains along the drive as well as dispersed campsites right off the road. The private section of the road is the widest while becoming narrower along the forest section road to the southwest. If going to Hawk Campground with a camper, it's recommended to approach from the north from Capon Springs. This road is closed during the months of February, March, and April.
