Trail Overview
Short Wash is just as exactly as it's named. The very short wash track will take drivers over a very soft sand and shale surface through some great scenery that will easily be completed by most AWD and 4WD or 4X4 vehicles. While the center of the track has no major obstacles, the outer edges of the wash have some larger rock formations that drivers can test their vehicles on. Rock formations range from 15-inch ledges to much larger obstacles, but overall this short trail has something for everyone. Views towards the end open up and give a great view of the Cerro Colorado, Ladron, and Monte Negro Peaks to the east. While the trail does continue past the 0.9-mile mark, it is labeled with USFS signage as being decommissioned and should be treated as an out-and-back. Cell service is weak throughout the area.

Difficulty
There are no notable obstacles in the center line of the track. However, there are optional larger obstacles towards the outside of the wash that are 15 inches and larger. Most AWD and 4WD vehicles will complete the track with ease. 2WD vehicles may have issues with the soft sand and shale surface in the wash and should proceed with caution.
