Trail Overview
This northern portion is NOT in the Choccolocco wildlife management area, but still is in the Talladega National Forest. USFSR #500 is considered the "primary" road that runs from the southern end; starting at Skyline Drive/AL HWY 281/US HWY 78 and ends at the Northern part in the city of Piedmont in Calhoun County. This primarily gravel road will take you to any other road in the Choccolocco Wildlife Management Area of the Talladega National Forest. This road is contained in the Shoal Creek Ranger district. The Ranger District building is at the intersection of the southern end. Here you can stop by for information. This route will take you to many fun-filled areas such as Coleman Lake RV and Primitive Campground, Pine Glen primitive campground, and many others. USFSR #500 is primarily a gravel, easy road for even 2WD vehicles with low clearance. It is maintained, but can get very small ruts and mud holes that can be avoided during hunting season when traffic is at its peak. Cell signal will come and go throughout the entirety of the trail.
