Trail Overview

At mile 11 starting from Highway 92, the road starts getting harder. At this point, you start up a steep hill that has loose rocks and can be challenging especially if it is wet. Once you crest the hill, it flattens out for 0.25 miles, then you descend another steep and rocky hill. After that, the road is fairly easy. There are some open parks on the route and some good camping spots along the way next to Soap Creek. At the end of the road is a trailhead into West Elks Wilderness.

First of the road somewhat muddy in the morning but dried up by early afternoon with the sun, not too dusty. Side creeks were low or dry. Soap Creek itself was rolling pretty high and fast, especially at the higher terrain areas. Chose not to do the actual Soap Creek crossing towards the end since it was running high and we were by ourselves. Overall made a great trail ride to explore in a new area for us. Mountain greenery and wildflowers were beautiful.
