Trail Overview
From the Marmol side, this rugged trail follows an old SCORE race route that runs parallel to Highway 1 between the entrance to Marmol and the Catavina area, showcasing terrain that's taken a beating over the years. The first 3-4 miles are marked by chunky rocks, deep ruts, and loose, rocky climbs. After reaching the crest of the final rocky ascent, the trail becomes smoother and softer as it crosses the mesa, offering a gentler ride with expansive desert landscapes surrounding you. The terrain gradually transitions to softer sand, making for an easier drive toward the end.

Difficulty
Approaching from the northwest, exercise caution with wheel placement and proceed slowly through the rocky sections, where tire damage is a real risk. After clearing the rocky climb, the trail descends into a series of three or four arroyos, each featuring small drop-offs and stretches of deep sand that demand careful handling.
