Trail Overview
Embark on a journey to one of the most renowned remote surfing destinations in northern Baja. This route is not only scenic but also a favorite among adventurers. Begin your trip by exiting at Santo Tomas, then follow the Santo Tomas to Vicente Guerrero route until you reach the trailhead. This picturesque graded path is also a popular track for the SCORE Baja races. While the trail is navigable by any high-clearance vehicle with an experienced off-road driver, caution is advised. After the initial stretch, you'll descend a long hill where the ocean becomes visible, passing a large compound managed by a religious group. The trail features two steep sections and a narrow segment with deep drop-offs on either side due to rain ruts, where it's advisable to have a spotter guide you through. As you continue, the road winds through coastal ranches before turning left and meeting the ocean at a popular surfers' campground. Be aware that a truck may come by to charge a camping fee of 100 or 200 pesos per night. Just past the surf spot lies the town of Punto San Jose, beyond which a four-wheel-drive road leads to private land overlooking the ocean.
