Trail Overview
The start of Old Six is right next to the Big Brushy trail complex for the Ouachita National Recreation Trail. It's a busy location and the weekend I explored this area was the finish of a mountain bike race. There is a really cool old metal bridge that you cross right after you pass the Big Brushy TH. Then you wind through the forest on an easy gravel road that parallels Big Brushy Creek. I then came to what I thought was the entrance to a mine but then a local passed me as I was taking pictures and said it was an old root cellar from an old farmstead many years ago. From there it's water crossings, some off-road trails for quads, and side-by-sides. There are areas to collect firewood from an old logging area. Just be mindful of snakes and spiders when collecting the wood. There is also a nature conservancy right next to the old Root Cellar. Please be mindful that this is private land and to not hike in or around that area.
