Trail Overview

This trail mostly follows a chaparral ridge in the southern part of Big Sur. This trail includes dramatic valley and ocean views. There is dispersed camping and established campgrounds. This trail goes adjacent to Fort Hunter Liggett which is a testing ground for artillery. Before this trail starts be mindful of private property on either side.

Difficulty

High clearance is needed for ruts and steep grades. There are sections of the trail with loose rock. Most of the trail is narrow with not many points to turn around. Expect pinstripes in a full-width vehicle.

Access Description

Please check if there are any road closures. Winter storms usually cause road damage on highway 1* Turn on Los Burros Road which is between Willow Creek Beach and Gorda. Tree Bones Resort shares this road. Continue up the road and follow signs to South Coast Road.
