Trail Overview
This graded gravel road takes you from Scotty's Castle up to Crankshaft Crossing. This is where Tule Canyon Road splits off from Death Valley/Big Pine Road. The road can be relatively smooth when graded but there are some dips and washouts with deep ruts at times. Be very careful. You can go pretty fast on this road but hazards can come out of nowhere. You will also be very far from any help, so plan accordingly. You will see beautiful views of the surrounding mountains--particularly stunning when there is snow. Always check with Death Valley National Park Ranger Station for up-to-date road conditions.

Difficulty
This gravel road is typically well-maintained by the Death Valley National Park. But seasonal weather and storms can cause dips, ruts, and uneven hazards. Use caution. It can be easy-going for miles but unseen hazards can pop up without notice. This backcountry road is also very far from services. Plan accordingly.
