Trail Overview
This trail is generally easy. As with most of the trails in this area, it goes in and out of washes, and there are some loose rocky off-camber climbs. The trail has a plethora of fire rings and excellent opportunities for dispersed camping. The route takes the adventurer right past the base camp area for the La Colorado mine. The La Colorado Mine base camp has many flat spots to camp with outstanding Mountain Views and a really old artifact "trash Dump" pile. Some old foundations remain from the old mining in the area. There is a spur trail starting from this camp, and it is quite difficult. It has a narrow wash entrance right into a very steep loose climb that was more than the lifted 4runner we ran this trail was capable of attempting but would be fun in a SxS or on a dirtbike. To complete the original trail, follow the loop back to the highway. This will give the driver even more camp options and ends at pavement needing a little maintenance. There are one to two bars of Verizon 5G service.

"The La Colorado Mine is near Ogilby, California. Historically the site has been associated with the Cargo Muchacho-Tumco Mining District which is now part of the Picacho Peak Wilderness. The site was first discovered in 1914. The La Colorado Mine was closed at the time of data entry with no known plans to re-open. The ore body extends 10 meters (35 feet) in width.
