Mammoth Lakes Overlook

I made it up to Mammoth Knowles overlook. I started up the Sawmill Cutoff road. You will pass a campground and continue until the road turns to dirt, then turn left onto the dirt trail that will take you up to the overlook. The trail was a little narrow, but there were some areas to pull over and allow traffic to pass. I ran into a group of tourists renting side-by-sides who were hauling tail on the narrow path, so keep that in mind: the closer you get to town, the more inexperienced and unpredictable the traffic will get on these dirt roads/trails. I cut the trail short, exiting on the Mammoth Scenic Route road, but I’m confident any 4x4 should have no problem running this trail all the way out to the 395.
