Obsidian Dome

I generally agree with the previous reviews, however the last 1/3 of this trail (the southern leg paralleling Obsidian Dome) was pretty weathered and blown out compared to a couple years ago when I first drove this trail. The first part of this isn’t really a trail but more of a well maintained fire road. It’s just that last leg that presents a fun obstacle for stock 4x4 vehicles. With about 9.5” of ground clearance, there were a couple ruts that I dragged my sidesteps on. No damage, just dragging through the loose sand/gravel. Highly recommend trying the entire loop if you have the appropriate vehicle. It only took me roughly an hour to complete the loop with a stop or two along the way. If you’re in a stock FWD car, you can drive the northern leg all the way to the Obsidian Dome parking area without any issue.

First half of the trail starting from the north end was smooth and easy (no need for 4x4). The second half was a little more technical, but still not bad. It had some steep drop offs on the trail that you need to watch out for or else you’ll smash your rear end. Was a fun trail with awesome scenery.
