Trail Overview

This is an intermediate ATV trail through Penrose Commons that curves through the pinyon pine on a wide dirt track with lots of loose rock on the surface. There are embedded rock layers in the trail that make small ledges, and some steep hill climbs that are full of loose rock. The trail has some sharp switchbacks and steep descents. It's pretty similar difficulty to most of the ATV trails within the trail system but on the easier side. This ATV trail accesses The Ridge singletrack as well. It's also one of the first trails accessed from the staging area, so you will likely see other riders.

Access Description

The Penrose Commons Recreation Site is popular for ATVs, dirt bikers, and extreme four-wheeling. It's rideable year-round but gets really hot here in the summer, and the trail closes during wet conditions. There is a dirt parking area at the end of County Road 127 north of the town of Penrose, Colorado. There is space for trailer parking and dispersed campsites past the staging area.
