Trail Overview

6102C is another rocky ATV trail through Penrose Commons that is similar to the many high desert trails in the area. It has fast and straight sections atop the grassy mesa, with pinyon pine lining the trail. The trail has views out towards the mesas and horizon. It has rocky curves with rock ledges and slab rock layers. There are small climbs and descents, and the surface of the trail is continuously a little bit loose from all the loose rocks and pea gravel. It goes down some moderately difficult hills with several small rock ledges in a row and has a few steep climbs that will add some challenge for ATVs as it's hard to maintain traction in the loose terrain. This trail starts on 6201B and accesses a new single track that has been developed recently in the recreation area. It ends at a road section of BLM Rte 6102E.

Access Description

The Penrose Commons Recreation Site is popular for ATVs, dirt bikers, and extreme four-wheeling. It's rideable year-round but gets really hot here in the summer, and gets closed during wet conditions. There is a dirt parking area at the end of County Road 127 north of the town of Penrose, Colorado. There is space for trailer parking and dispersed camp sites past the staging area.
