Trail Overview
This 4.4-mile trail in the Rio Grande National Forest starts on the east end at the end of the Oso Creek Road, which is a spur off of the Rat Creek Loop in Creede, Colorado. It intersects with the Miners Creek trail in a big grassy meadow. It meanders with some big giant rocks on either side of the trail, you just have to pick your way through them a bit and watch out for your pegs. There is a new reroute on this trail that avoids a big super deep and long rut that went straight up the hill. It weaves through the trees with excellent traction and doesn't have a steep hill climb anymore. It gets up to the top of the mesa with a big climb that is really rocky and challenging. The loose rocks are on the bigger side and the trail is a bit braided. The trail continues up into the tundra, side hilling with some exposure, so this trail isn't for the faint of heart. It ends at the intersection with Snow Mesa Trail.
