Trail Overview
This trail has it all: epic views and rocky challenges. Silver Mountain is a super-long trail in the Rio Grande National Forest south of South Fork, Colorado. It climbs up over a mountain range through several meadows, with several rocky sections and a few creek crossings. It goes through a really beautiful mix of aspen tree and pine tree forests, and high tundra. There are some small downed logs, big boulder sections, and beautiful wildflowers in mid-summer. The boulders are more difficult to get through, but there isn't one major crux or rock-ledge obstacle. If going north to south, it's mostly downhill, dropping 3,500 feet over 12 miles.
