Trail Overview

This is a new singletrack in the Penrose Commons Recreation Area. The south end starts as a narrow single track off of the ATV Trail 6102C, going through pinyon pine, very tightly between the bushes. You'll be ducking for branches the whole ride. It snakes through this high desert forest, weaving between large rocks, boulders, and tree branches. It's difficult because it's pretty socked into the trees. It has several big rock features throughout the 1-mile distance, requiring technical skill and big moves. Some of these features are rock ledges that have multiple boulders piled up or a crack between boulders that might pinch riders if they don't carry momentum. It rides past cool giant boulders and rock walls, and you have to pick your way through boulders in the trail that grab your pegs. It is constantly going over embedded boulders and slabs of rock. Near the north end are some of the biggest rock features that require big moves up blunt tall ledges. It's definitely helpful to have a map of this trail, as you could easily lose the trail in the trees. It's a really cool new trail for dirt bikers, especially those looking for a rocky challenge. It ends on BLM poute 6102d.

Access Description

The Penrose Commons Recreation Site is popular for ATVs, dirt bikers, and extreme four-wheeling. It's rideable year-round but gets really hot here in the summer, and gets closed during wet conditions. There is a dirt parking area at the end of County Road 127 north of the town of Penrose, Colorado. There is space for trailer parking, and dispersed camp sites past the staging area.
