Trail Overview
The Burnt Island Loop starts at Burnt Island Park in the Lochloosa Water Management Area. The trail is only open during hunting season. It's a very wet area, parts of the trail are always flooded from the lake and the creeks that are going through. The mud holes and water crossings are up to 3ft deep and up to 300ft long. The road is narrow and is not wide enough for two vehicles to pass. 4WD and high clearance are highly recommended. OHVs are not permitted in this area, only street-legal vehicles. Be aware that some parts of the trail have no cellphone reception. You may be able to see a lot of wildlife.
