Trail Overview

Trail 5 is one of the harder single tracks in the Canfield Trail System. It's rutted out and braided, with deep troughs, roots, and steep climbs. It gains 1,100 feet in one mile as it goes south to north. There are a lot of split lines in the beginning and roots across the trail during the climb, which makes it difficult. It's also super steep, with branches sticking out and whacking you. There's a narrow section between the bushes while climbing that is less rutted as it keeps gaining elevation. Near the North end, it turns into a nicer single track with fewer split lines. Then another steep rocky and rooted climb up from a road crossing near the top of the mountain with embedded boulders which is one of the harder spots. It's tricky because it's so loose with rock ledges. It ends on Trail 1 by the radio tower.

Difficulty

This is a difficult trail because it is a loose rocky, rutted, rooted, hill climb the whole way up. You'll be grinding all the way up, and really have to carry momentum up and over ledges. Load up the fly wheel and zap it. It would be a bit easier in the downhill direction.
