Trail Overview
Deadwood Creek is a 6-mile challenging single track in the Yankee Fork area of the Challis National Forest near Stanley, Idaho. This is one of the more challenging trails in the region, with rocky obstacles and fantastic views. It connects the Westfork Yankee Fork trail to the Hay Knapp Creek Trail, both challenging but slightly more accessible and makes for a fun day ride. Starting from the north end, there is a big, long creek crossing right away. It's about a foot deep with a rocky bottom, but the water is clear, so you can see a good path while you ride through it. It goes through a burn area with tree downfall. The trail is narrow through the downfall, with many small pieces of rock and log debris. It starts to climb up from the river drainage, paralleling the Deadwood Creek the whole way. It side hills up the mountains on an exposed and shelfy trail and comes to the first rock obstacle, which is some giant embedded sharp jagged boulders you must go over during an exposed section. Some of the shelfy spots are full of scree. It keeps climbing up with several switchbacks that are tight and rocky. There is an unmarked little spur trail with a quick steep climb up a loose rocky hill to get to the mountain summit with a 360-degree view of the mountain. The last section of the trail is a loose downhill trail down the backside of the mountain with loose round rocks that run in the trail until it ends at the intersection with Hay Knapp Creek.

Difficulty
This is a harder single track due to being consistently rocky with several rock obstacles and tight switchbacks. This trail requires experience to maneuver the many tricky rock sections, and steep loose hill climbs and descents without blowing out the trail.
