Trail Overview
The Amax Haul Road is the main north/south route at LEOR, delivering riders to several different trail adventures and other main routes throughout the park. The East Field Access Road reaches the north side of the Haul Road and can also be viewed from the overpass on Old Route 13 crossing it. From the deep mud of The Bottoms to the steep hill climbs along the southern banks of the road, the Amax Haul Road provides access to suitable terrain for each rider. When approached from the north end, the Haul Road begins as a primarily gravel surface, progressing into a mixture of dirt and rock, with coal bits mixed in. This terrain is no hindrance to travel during dry seasons, although a highly slick and soft mixture of mud is present during wet seasons and after rainfalls. The road is periodically resurfaced by a dozer but can develop water holes and ruts, sometimes of depth up to 12", but are avoidable in most cases. The southern portion of the Haul Road is slightly lower in elevation, leading to a higher frequency of water holes and a less-maintained surface compared to the northern side. The road ends at the New Boundary Trail, which crosses through the Haul Road. When dry, the Amax Haul Road can be quickly completed on a two-wheel drive OHV, although a four-wheel drive is necessary when attempting to pass in wet seasons. This route is accessible by SxS, ATV, and dirt bikes and falls into the blue difficulty rating.
