Trail Overview
NFS 5552 is an out-and-back trail located within the Manistee National Forest. This is your classical Michigan 2-track trail, dirt, mud, sand, gravel, woods, twisty sections, etc. The trail begins off West 48 Road with some incredibly tall red pine trees before ascending further into the forest. Like most of these Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. There are a few spur trails along this route that can be explored as well. The end of the trail finishes with a loop, which is a great spot to pull over and have some lunch! Regardless of the conditions, this is a neat trail!
