Trail Overview

National Forest Service Trail 9736 is a fun and challenging off-road trail. Located off North Evergreen Drive, this route is easily accessible. This trail is mostly easy with nothing technical other than three obstacles. As you head west to east, you'll encounter the biggest mud pit on the trail. This mud pit is minimally 36 inches deep for the majority of the hole. Some places can be even deeper. Use caution if you decide to drop in here. The second obstacle is a small mud pit which is minimally 18 inches deep and can get deeper. Both of these mud pits have a bypass around them and this bypass goes between both mud pits. After recent weather, these two mud pits can become one with no bypass going around, thus the Trail Difficulty Rating of 6. Please stay on the trail and tread lightly! Beyond the two mud pits, it gets a bit off-camber as you continue down the trail for a short bit. The rest of the trail is a combination of sand and dirt and weaves through an absolutely beautiful section of the Manistee National Forest with great fall foliage. This trail connects with other trails in the area for more fun. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause mud/water holes that can get rutted out quickly. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. Regardless of the conditions, this is a neat trail!

Difficulty

The Technical Rating and Difficulty is listed as a 6 due to the two mud pits along this trail. The mud pit to the west is minimally 36 inches deep and the mud pit to the east is roughly 18 inches deep. Heading east, beyond both mud pits gets a bit off-camber. Beyond these obstacles, this is an easy two-track trail with a lot of beautiful scenery in this National Forest.
