Difficulty
These are very easy trails, with some active logging operations to watch for. Look for lots of wildlife, including deer, black bear, and small game. It's very scenic all year but especially nice in the fall colors.
History
Oxford Lake was a site of a murder in the late 90s where the suspect dumped his victims' bodies. The Michigan State Police built the access road to the lake boat launch to set up a large-scale dredging operation and found the adult female victim's body but never recovered her infant child's body. The suspect was arrested and convicted for the two murders and is waiting in prison for his death sentence. This is the only modern death sentence in Michigan's recent history because the crime took place on federal lands and the charges were federal. The State of Michigan does not have the death penalty. The area is very quiet and spooky at night.
