Trail Overview
Swamp Tree Trail is a unique out-and-back off-road trail. Most of the trail is a combination of dirt, sand, and grass. You'll be descending as you progress down the trail toward the Manistee River. At the end, you'll find a great dispersed campsite right along the river. There is also another dispersed campsite alongside the trail as well. If you plan on camping off this trail, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY, and please seek more information at the local DNR Office/Ranger Station prior to camping here. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause downed trees, washouts, & mud holes. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. Near end very end of the trail, there are a few mud holes to use caution with. These holes are the reason for the trail name. You can navigate around them as the trail is plenty wide here, but if you decide to trek through them, be sure you have a way to recover yourself, as they've been known to get DEEP. Regardless of the conditions, this is an all-around fantastic trail!
