Trail Overview

Horseshoe Bar runs east-west across the middle portion of the northern half of the Bessey Ranger District of the Nebraska National Forest and Grassland (near Halsey, NE). The trail has a seasonal restriction - it is closed to motor vehicle traffic from September 1 through November 30. The trail is two-track, with a sandy surface. Occasional washouts and rutted areas are present where there are inclines. Because the land is also used for livestock grazing, there are multiple gates that must be opened and closed. Parts of the trail pass through rolling hills and grassland, and the remainder passes through a sparsely treed area of the forest.
