Trail Overview
Carpenter Wash Bypass can be ridden in connection with several other single-track trails in the Pahrump BLM for a fun day ride in the desert. Stage off of Carpenter Canyon Road, or connect to this trail from Wheeler Pass by some of the jeep roads in this area. The north end of the trail peels off of a road and is easy to miss. Going south, it starts as a fun and narrow dirt trail over grassy rolling desert hills. It's very faint in the beginning because the area is seldom ridden, and you likely won't see any other riders. There are some low branches from the Joshua trees to watch out for. It steadily declines down to the valley overlooking Pahrump as you lose elevation. It turns into a wide gravel wash that is road-width before it tees up with Carpenter Wash on the south end of the trail. This is an easy trail with no obstacles or difficult features and is great for beginner dirt bikers new to single track. Visit in winter when the days are warm and sunny. The trails in the area are unmarked and can be easy to miss. Look for cairns and having a GPS track to follow is recommended.
