Dun Glen Trail

Trail Overview

From Winnemucca head west on Rose Creek Road, and go south on Herschell for approximately 4.9 miles before asphalt runs to a maintained gravel road. Stay on this road for approximately 4.5 miles go west dun Dun Glen Road, this is where the trail begins and at this point is still gravel but unmaintained. You will climb to an elevation of approximately 6100ft before you head down the other side.

The trail can get washed out in spots from snow runoff and rain.

History

Dun Glen Cemetery is located below town but not at its original location, the Dun Glen Cemetery is the final resting place of the Nelson family, Civil War era pioneers. In 2003, a mining company applied for and received permits to mine the original location, and agreed to exhume and reinter the remains. The company fell short of its promise and left the remains above ground for two years in makeshift coffins. They were finally laid to rest in October 2005
