Trail Overview
Arroyo Montosa begins just over 2 miles after entering Forest Road 10 off Highway 169 and is an out-and-back trail. This track runs along the southern portion of the Bear Mountain Range in Cibola National Forest just to the northwest of Magdalena, NM. It offers wide open views for a majority of the trail and is wide enough for one vehicle with room to pass in most areas. The trail shows some signs of being maintained towards the beginning and becoming more primitive after crossing the arroyo with some light rutting and overgrowth of brush but no obstacles larger than 10". The surface is primarily dirt with some sections being soft sand and rock. The arroyo bed crossing is very soft and will be an issue for anything other than 4WD or AWD vehicles along the 1/2 mile of the trail that it follows before returning to a hard-pack surface. There are several spurs off the main route that provides for more exploring, however, there is no dispersed camping permitted in the area. Cell service is strong for a majority of the trail with only a few areas having weak or no service. Cattle are present towards the end where the trail ends at a private property boundary.

Difficulty
There are no large obstacles along the trail, but drivers should be cautious of the rutting and erosion, off-camber sections, and soft sandy areas. These areas are not hard to navigate when dry but will be very difficult after rain or snow melt.
